Let’s celebrate the unsung heroes of climate action in BC - the staff and elected officials in local governments and Indigenous communities working to advance initiatives related to climate and energy in their communities!
 
The longstanding Climate & Energy Action Awards recognize projects that contribute to resiliency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and provide related benefits that are setting the community up for future success.

New this year is a Climate & Energy Champion Award for an employee or elected official from a CEA member community who has taken initiative, influenced others, and helped integrate meaningful climate solutions into organizational practices and the community.
 
Nominations are due by Noon on Monday, July 13, 2026.

CEA’s CEO Megan Lohmann had a simple message when she spoke last month to the group of MLAs travelling around BC to consult about budget priorities: recapitalize and expand the Local Government Climate Action Program.

Since it was established in 2022, LGCAP has distributed more than $120 million to local governments and Modern Treaty Nations in support of local capacity and infrastructure related to climate and resiliency.

This is the last year of committed funding and local governments around BC are advocating for the program to continue. CEA has been at the vanguard of ensuring government officials know the value of the program and this continued during the presentation to MLAs, with Megan providing examples of critical community investments that were enabled with LGCAP funding. She also showed how the projects are often reducing long-term operating costs and attracting additional funding in excess of the contribution from LGCAP.

This advocacy could result in many millions of dollars for communities around BC and is possible thanks to CEA’s members, which together represent nearly 75% of BC’s population. Not a member but want to join and be part of the effort? Learn more about becoming a member and contact us.

CEA Members elected the 2026 Board of Directors during CEA’s AGM last month, affirming a 10-person veteran Board that brings provincial and national expertise and a shared commitment to preparing CEA to increase its impact in communities across Canada.

The AGM also served as the unveiling of CEA’s 2025 annual report, showcasing CEA’s reach and impact. Last year, CEA:

• Connected more than 1,100 people from 140 communities to share information and build capacity for local climate action.
• Welcomed 210 people to four Fleet Forward events showcasing medium- and heavy-duty zero emission vehicles, giving participants the chance to learn more about how to decarbonize their fleets.
• Organized a two-day tour of community solar installations in northeast BC for representatives of First Nations communities, municipalities, funding organizations, non-profits, community development organizations, and local solar installers.
• Designed and facilitated diverse engagement activities that provided valuable inputs into community planning processes for low carbon resilience and local energy.
• Delivered training for building professionals related to high-performance homes that led to more than 2,000 registrations in 2025 alone.
